Guy Thompson's switch from Jersey to London Wasps has been
confirmed, with the 26-year-old back row player's transfer also
involving a step up from the RFU Championship to the Aviva
Premiership.
Thompson played two seasons at St Peter, and was Jersey's
leading try-scorer this season as the Island side survived their
first season of Championship rugby.
"We are disappointed to be losing Guy, who was been a pivotal
part of our team for the past two years," states Jersey Director of
Rugby Ben Harvey. "In recognition of his contribution we were able
to agree an improved contract with Guy which he signed soon after
our final league match.
"Unfortunately for Jersey, the offer from a Premiership side was
too good for Guy to turn down, and by paying a release fee, Wasps
have been able to secure his services.
"I believe that Guy has the potential to perform at the top
level and we'd like to wish him all the best with his new
club."
Harvey confirmed that the process of finding a replacement for
Thompson was underway, saying that he hoped to announce this, plus
the other remaining players for his 2013/14 squad, in the near
future.
