Jersey RFC have announced that Club Captain Alex Rae has signed
a new contract with the club extending until summer 2017.
28-year-old Rae is midway through his second season with Jersey.
The second row forward, who also plays flanker, formerly played for
Bedford, Wasps, Northampton and Saracens; last season he missed
just one of the Islanders' 23 Greene King IPA Championship
fixtures, as well as playing in the British & Irish Cup on four
occasions and in the Siam Cup. This season he has featured in all
17 of Jersey's league and cup encounters so far.
"This is fantastic news for the club and is a tribute to Alex's
growing leadership skills and to the positive relationships he has
both with his fellow players and the coaching team," said Head
Coach Harvey Biljon. "He has really embraced life on the Island and
has now committed himself to the club's future."
Rae said: "This is an exciting time to be involved with Jersey
rugby and I really want to be part of that going forward. I've
really enjoyed my time here so far and it feels very much like
home, so re-signing is something I'm thrilled about."
Confirmation that the captain will remain involved follows news
earlier this month of an identical contract for Assistant Coach
Steve Boden, who is midway through his third season with
Jersey.
The Islanders travel to Yorkshire this weekend for a crucial
Greene King IPA Championship match against Doncaster Knights. After
a weekend without a game, Jersey will be back at St Peter on
Saturday January 31st when Nottingham are the visitors.
