Prop Nick Selway joins Jersey RFC today
(Friday August 30th) and is set to make his debut for the Islanders
in the pre-season match against Coventry at St Peter
tomorrow.
Selway, 24, joins from National One side
Cinderford and will provide an additional option in the front row
for Director of Rugby Ben Harvey.
"Nick is a powerful scrummager and
effective ball carrier and has the potential to become a key part
of the Jersey pack," said Harvey. "I first saw him play against us
for Lydney in 2010/11, when he caused us some real
problems.
"Nick is a young player who has developed
since moving up to National One with Cinderford, and I believe that
he has the potential to step up again to the full-time professional
environment of the Championship."
Weighing around 20 stone and standing 6ft
2ins tall, Selway made around 80 appearances in the National League
for Lydney and Cinderford over the past three seasons, scoring 11
tries, and also played on loan for Plymouth Albion in the British
& Irish Cup.
Harvey said the signing provided additional
cover following injuries to Jon Brennan and Tom Fidler suffered
against Leicester Tigers in Jersey's opening pre-season encounter
last weekend.
"Tom has a minor knock and will sit out the
game with Coventry, but we expect him to be available for our
opening league game on September 15th," said Harvey. "JB is a bit
more of a concern with a calf injury, but the results of his scan
this week didn't look too bad and we hope he will be available
again towards the end of September."
Jersey's match against Coventry kicks off
at 4pm on Saturday, with tickets priced £5 available on the
gate.
