Reds make 3 changes for Nottingham

22/09/2016

Jersey Reds are aiming to dazzle their home supporters under the newly-upgraded floodlights at St Peter this Friday.

The first 'Friday Night Lights' match of the 2016/17 campaign sees Nottingham Rugby visit the Reds' home ground for a match that pits fourth against ninth in the early-season Greene King IPA Championship table.

Both teams are coming off the back of losses in round 3 - Jersey conceding a decisive late try to Ealing Trailfinders in west London, and the Green-and-Whites well beaten on home turf by Cornish Pirates.

The two sides were evenly-matched last season, Jersey finishing one point (57) and one place (sixth) above their rivals in the final table. Each side won the away encounter, both of which were closely-fought Friday night affairs: Nottingham by 27-29 at St Peter in October, and the Reds by 15-22 at Lady Bay in March.

The results in last season's matches reflected a general trend in this fixture since Jersey reached the Championship in 2012, with the away side winning five of the eight games.

Nottingham have installed a new Head Coach over the summer, with former Munster coach Ian Costello taking up the reins from Martin Haag, who became England Under 20s Head Coach at the end of the 2015/16 domestic season.

Reds Head Coach Harvey Biljon makes three changes to his starting XV from the side who began the 20-15 defeat at Ealing, Jersey's first in six games so far this season. One is up front, with James Freeman returning at flanker after a one-match absence through injury; he will captain the side.

In the backs there is a league debut for Sam Katz, who gets the nod at fly-half ahead of Brendan Cope, while Rich Lane will play his first league rugby of the new season after being selected ahead of George Watkins.

The Reds replacements are mostly unchanged, but include James Doyle, who switches to the bench to make way for Freeman, and the return of hooker Joe Buckle.

The home club is hoping for a bumper crowd for the second home match of their league campaign, at a ground where upgraded floodlights are just one of a number of enhancements to facilities over the summer. Check out all the match-night info you'll need HERE
