Local Jersey airline, Blue Islands has become the Official Airline Partner of Jersey Reds for the 2020/21 season, working with the rugby club in helping the 1st team squad fly to forthcoming fixtures in the Greene King IPA Championship.
The 2020/21 Championship season has been delayed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but a start date of March 6th has been confirmed, with each team playing ten games across March, April and May, operating as part of the UK’s elite sport programme.
The Reds’ squad will travel to away games in England via chartered day-trip flights with Blue Islands.
Jersey Reds Chairman Mark Morgan said he was delighted the two organisations would be working together.
“As the Channel Islands' only professional sports team we will be continuing to fly the flag for Jersey in the second tier of English rugby, and by travelling with Blue Islands the squad can travel with comfort and convenience and in the safest way possible during the current situation,” he said.
Rob Veron, Chief Executive of Blue Islands, said: “As a local airline, we understand the significant role Jersey Reds plays in the community which is why Blue Islands is proud to have been appointed as the Reds’ Official Airline Partner. We look forward to welcoming the Jersey Reds onboard and wish the team the very best of luck for the season ahead.”
The Greene King IPA Championship season is set to start on the weekend of 6th March, with 11 clubs facing a truncated schedule of 10 games during March, April and May. The Reds also hope to confirm two friendly fixtures away from home during February. For link to the fixture schedule, see HERE.
The Reds hope to secure final confirmation from the Government of Jersey this week following detailed discussions regarding the testing regime for all participants and other Covid-19 protocols.
