Reds boost front five with brace of Warrior signings

08/04/2021

Ahead of a tough block of four more Greene King IPA Championship fixtures, Jersey Reds, have unveiled two new forwards who formerly represented their countries at under-20 level.

Prop Adam Nicol (pictured above) makes the move from Glasgow Warriors and has signed with the Reds until the end of the 2021/22 season, while lock forward James Scott moves to Jersey on loan from Worcester Warriors for the remainder of the current campaign.

Nicol, 23, was born in Aberdeen and made his Glasgow debut as a teenager in 2016, also playing for Stirling County in the early stages of his career. He won 14 under-20 caps for Scotland and has since gone on to play for the Warriors in the Heineken Champions Cup and the Guinness PRO14. The move to Jersey will initially be on loan until the end of the season, followed by a permanent move this summer.

Director of Rugby Harvey Biljon said: ‘Adam has gained experience with a top-flight club, but he’s had limited opportunities – a change of scene and the chance to play more regularly should help him kick on in his career.’

Scott, 21, (pictured above) has been a team-mate of Nicol’s in recent week after moving on short-term loan from Worcester Warriors to Glasgow Warriors in January. Having finished his time in Scotland, he will now complete the 2020/21 season in the Channel Islands.

Having become part of the Worcester academy section in 2017, Scott has made appearances for Worcester Warriors 1st XV, and during a loan spell with Hartpury University, as well as earning caps for England’s under-20 team.

‘James is a promising player who is still at an early stage of his career,’ Biljon said. ‘The Championship should provide a good test for him to show what he can do and we’re looking forward to integrating him into the squad.’

This week’s signings link up with two other new faces announced earlier in April: hooker Eoghan Clarke, a permanent signing from Munster; and back row forward Matti Williams, another loanee from Worcester Warriors for the remainder of the current season.

After a weekend off over Easter, the Reds kick off their next set of Championship fixtures with back-to-back challenges against undefeated sides. This Saturday they will take on Doncaster Knights at Castle Park with the match, nominally a Reds’ home game but switched to Yorkshire as a result of early-season Covid precautions in Jersey, kicking off at 2.30pm.

On April 17th the Reds travel to London to face Ealing Trailfinders, who like the Knights won their first four league matches of the season, and then are looking forward to their first genuine home game of the season, when Nottingham will visit Stade Santander International on Saturday April 24th. The four-match run concludes with an away game at Ampthill on Saturday May 1st.

All of the Reds’ games this season can be watched via live streaming broadcasts which can be booked via the Championship website at the cost of £10 per match.
