Jersey Reds and Guernsey Raiders are pleased to announce that they have agreed a format of Siam Cup fixtures for 2021/22 with the aim of “catching up” the Centenary match which was abandoned in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rescheduled Centenary Siam Cup will be held in Guernsey on Saturday August 28th 2021, leading into the 2021/22 season, when Siam contests will take place for all teams including Men’s 1st and 2nd XVs, Ladies, and Veterans.
Andrea Harris, Joint Chair of the Raiders said: “After such an unsettling time over the past year, it is fantastic for our players, coaches, members, volunteers and sponsors to have a date to look forward to in August. The Siam Cup has always been a hard-fought and keenly-contested affair across all matches. We are excited to host the postponed Centenary match in front of what we expect to be a packed Garenne Stand at Footes Lane and put on a show for our spectators.”
Once the 2021/22 season fixtures are released, it is expected that the two islands will agree dates for two further Siam Cup fixtures to be played at the end of the season, with each club hosting one Siam event during May 2022.
Jersey Reds Chairman Mark Morgan said: “I am delighted our two clubs have been able to line up three spectacles for the coming season. Not only will this be great for both sets of supporters, but it will also provide much-needed revenues after both clubs have been hit by the withdrawal of funding from the RFU.”
