Preview to Cinderford (a) 01.10.11

28/09/2011

Cinderford RFC, known locally as 'The Foresters' is the second largest club in Gloucestershire, behind Gloucester RFC.  Their position at the foot of the table certainly doesn't tell the whole story as with 5 points from 5 games, all of which could have been reverse results, they are probably the most in-form, out of luck side in the league at the moment.

In Rory Teague, nephew of former Gloucester and England legend Mike Teague, they have the second highest points scorer in the league so far this term with 57 points - 52 coming from the boot and 1 try against Fylde.

This is definitely not a match that Jersey should be complacent about and having narrowly lost out last weekend away to Ealing Trailfinders, finally going down 21-18 thanks to a last minute try by Chesters in a game that could so easily have gone the other way, Cinderford will be as determined as ever to post their first win of the season.

Other matches this season have seen The Foresters narrowly lose at home to Fylde 34-36 picking up a try scoring bonus in the process, also Blackheath 18-21 and, away to Coventry21-15 in their opening game and Birmingham & Solihull 29-17.

Cinderford have a big, physical pack so this is sure to be another battle of attrition up front before we see what comes of the play in the three-quarters.

About Cinderford

Cinderford has a total of 16 club affiliated sides competing weekly in a variety of leagues. Aside from the 1st team, the United XV competes in the Premier Division of the Gloucestershire Reserves League and also plays many friendly fixtures against the second strings of top clubs in England and Wales.  The Stags XV plays in Division 1 (N) and the Bucks XV in the third division of the reserves league. Two women's teams play on Sunday afternoons and a successful mini and junior section provides rugby for youngsters from U7s to U17s.

Cinderford RFC was formed in 1886 and was soon playing many leading clubs in England and Wales.  The club's fortunes and that of the local mining community were closely linked and both declined during the inter-war years with a number of local rugby heroes 'going north' to seek their fortunes in what is now 'The Rugby League'.  Cinderford RFC re-emerged after the Second World War and regained its Dockham Roadhome in 1956. Fifty years of hard work and the foresight of a few individuals have furnished the club with a splendid ground that is the envy of many!

The Clubhouse is located at the Beavis Memorial Ground on Dockham Road, right in the heart of Cinderford.
