On the last weekend of 2017, Jersey Reds will be making the trip to Penzance to play Cornish Pirates.
After the successful trip last March, the club is again planning a charter flight for the weekend of December 30th/31st, and is looking for commitment from supporters in order to get the plane off the ground - literally! A visit to Cornwall is one of the great rugby pilgrimages - it should be a cracking way to round off 2017, and we'll have you back 'on the Rock' in time to celebrate New Year with your nearest-and-dearest.
Due to the range of locations and prices across the many options for accommodation, we don't intend to offer a full package including a designated hotel. Those coming on the trip will need to arrange their own hotel. There will be coach transport arranged on Sunday for the return journey from Penzance to Cornwall Airport Newquay, and depending on numbers and demand, we'll also arrange transport on Saturday from the airport to selected destinations. There'll be a modest charge to cover these transfers.
The outline details of the trip are as follows:
Saturday Dec 30th
10.00am - Reds' players, coaches and supporters depart Jersey for flight to Newquay (approx one hour)
afternoon/evening - supporters are free to plan their itinerary according to their budget and preferences. Some may wish to travel all the way to Penzance (approx one hour by road from the airport) but there are other options including St Ives, Falmouth, Truro or Newquay itself.
We hope it may be possible to repeat the very enjoyable trip to Skinner's Brewery that happened in March, although we'll need to check their festive opening hours!
Sunday Dec 31st
morning - at leisure, or travel to Penzance if you've stayed elsewhere
12.00pm - gates open at the Mennaye Field
2.00pm - kick-off for Cornish Pirates v Jersey Reds
4.45pm - leave Mennaye Field
5.45pm - arrive Newquay Airport
6.30pm - depart Newquay Airport for return flight to Jersey (approx one hour)
The cost of the return flight will be £260 per person. No money is required at this stage, however full payment will be required by September 30th.
