Players visit children’s ward at hospital

15/04/2015

A group of JRFC players spent part of their day off in hospital
last week... but don't worry, they weren't adding to the club's
injury list, but visiting children in Robin Ward, the designated
children's ward at Jersey General Hospital.

Jonny Bentley, Sam Lockwood, Jack Burroughs, Nick Campbell, Joe
Buckle and David Bishop called into Robin Ward, chatted to kids,
helped out with some games, colouring and other activities, and
handed out some JRFC kit and Easter eggs - all designed to cheer up
the kids and take their minds off their assorted injuries and
operations. There was also an opportunity to join the kids, their
families and nurses in singing 'Happy Birthday' to a
not-at-all-embarrassed Sam Lockwood.

This was one of a number of recent community initiatives
involving JRFC players.

For World Book Day in March, members of the Jersey squad were
asked to talk to the pupils at La Moye Primary School about their
favourite books.

Ed Dawson, Grant Pointer and Ben Maidment made the trip to the
school in St Brelade and spent time in the classroom comparing
notes with pupils about their favourite reading.

The players were also able to join pupils for some light
training skills on the school playing fields, although the
youngsters had been warned to take it easy on their visitors, all
of whom are working their way back to fitness after injury.

A further community initiative is planned later this month when
the 'Try Rugby' event takes on April 25th: pupils from La Moye and
Mont Nicolle schools will be put through their paces by Rugby
Development Officer Dave Felton prior to the 1st XV game with
Moseley.
