Jersey RFC's 1st team squad has commenced pre-season training
ahead of the 2013/14 campaign in the RFU Championship.
After returning for fitness assessment at the end of last week,
the players 'enjoyed' their first full session at St Peter
yesterday (Monday).
"It's been a great season so far - no-one's missed a tackle or
dropped a ball yet!" was the tongue-in-cheek assessment of Director
of Rugby Ben Harvey.
Harvey said the first few weeks of training and conditioning
work would lay the foundation for a successful season.
"It's going to be really hectic, and our Strength &
Conditioning Coach Jake Aliker has got a pretty demanding schedule
arranged," he added. "The vast majority of the squad are on duty -
we have a couple of injury niggles, and players such as Elvis
Taione and Nicky Griffiths who have been on international duty, but
otherwise everyone's had the chance to rest and is raring to go,
and they'll certainly be tested over these first few weeks."
The first training session took place exactly two months before
Jersey take on Leicester Tigers in the first of two pre-season
friendlies at St Peter on August 24th. The following Saturday,
August 31st, Coventry will be the visitors to the Island.
It is expected that the Championship season will commence on
September 14th, although this date, and the rest of the league
programme, has yet to be confirmed, with confirmation of the
official release date expected from Twickenham shortly.
