A RFU official will inspect the Jersey RFC pitch at St Peter at
10am on Friday morning ahead of Saturday's Greene King IPA
Championship fixture against Nottingham.
Heavy rain in Jersey in recent days, on top of the Island's fifth
wettest January on record, has prompted the home club to arrange
the inspection. Opponents Nottingham have been kept fully informed
of the situation, with the inspection scheduled ahead of their
scheduled departure time for a 3.30pm flight from Birmingham.
Jersey RFC Chairman Bill Dempsey said: "Our first team pitch has
been considerably more robust this season after the remedial work
to the drainage system that was undertaken last summer. We also
carried out a 'verti-drain' procedure on Monday. While this leaves
us hopeful that the game can go ahead, it's not possible to
water-proof any grass pitch and we have experienced some very
severe weather in the past two weeks.
"We are mindful of Nottingham's travel schedule and the RFU
regulations, and consequently have arranged that one of the
Assistant Referees for Saturday's game will be flying across early
on Friday morning in order to carry out the inspection."
