Drew Locke joins Jersey RFC
Jersey have added former Gloucester centre Drew Locke to the
1st XV squad as the build-up to the 2013/14 season
continues.
Locke, who spent a season at Kingsholm and featured in the
Cherry-and-Whites' LV Cup campaign, becomes the latest recruit by
Director of Rugby Ben Harvey as the Island side prepare for their
second season in the Greene King IPA Championship.
Prior to joining Gloucester, Locke, who will be 27 in September
and can also play full-back, was on the books of another
Premiership club, Exeter Chiefs, and was dual-registered with the
Cornish Pirates. He now becomes the sixth former Pirate in the
Jersey squad, alongside Nicky Griffiths, Joe Buckle, Ben Maidment,
Aaron Penberthy and Grant Pointer.
As well as facing the Pirates, who Jersey will face in both the
league and British & Irish Cup, Locke may also face another
former club, Coventry, who take on Jersey in a pre-season match on
August 31st.
"I'm really pleased that it's been possible to bring Drew in to
join us," Harvey said. "Our pre-season training is just getting
into top gear, so it's been a tough start for him, but he's fitted
in well and I think he'll provide another talented addition to the
squad."
The Jersey squad's first action of 2013/14 will be the
pre-season match against Leicester Tigers. Sponsored by Ashburton,
the match takes place on Saturday August 24th, and
tickets will be on sale from Tuesday July 9th at the
JRFC club shop, Red Properties in St Helier and the Jersey Evening
Post offices at Five Oaks.
