The RFU Championship fixtures for 2013/14 have been
released.
Jersey will kick off the league campaign on neutral territory,
with a match against Plymouth Albion at Exeter
Chiefs' Sandy Park ground on the weekend of September 14/15. This
will be part of a trio of double header events to launch the
season. Each club will play a total of 23 league games, with 11
home and 11 away games to follow the launch weekend.
Round 1 - September 13/14/15 - Double Header Launch
Weekend (days/ ko times tbc)
Jersey will then have successive home games, with
Bedford Blues and Bristol
visiting the Island on the remaining weekends of September. The
first away match follows, against Nottingham at
Meadow Lane, before the opening pair of British & Irish Cup
fixtures - the Cup draw will be announced at a future date.
The fixture list includes confirmation that the second tier of the
English game is to be sponsored by the brewer Greene King and will
now be known as the Greene King IPA
Championship.
Among the other notable fixtures for Jersey are the renewal of
rivalries with Ealing Trailfinders at the end of
November, plus a first ever competitive encounter with
London Welsh on the first weekend of 2014.
The 'regular season' of the Greene King IPA Championship will
conclude for Jersey with an Easter weekend home game against
London Scottish, followed by the return match
against Bedford at Goldington Road.
Days of fixtures, and kick-off times
The fixtures are all scheduled for designated weekends, as shown
below with a weekend (W/E) note and the Saturday date. Games may
take place on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday, with the home
club having the right to nominate their preferred day and time.
Some fixtures may also be moved to accommodate live coverage on Sky
Sports - Sky will also show matches from the launch weekend.
Although Jersey are likely to play the majority of their home
fixtures in the Saturday afternoon slot, this remains to be
confirmed, and there are likely to be exceptions to this rule. Away
matches could take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Supporters
should make allowances for the variation in kick-off times when
booking travel, or wait for confirmation of exact times, which will
be issued as soon as possible.
Fixtures for all clubs may be obtained from the official
RFU site.
