To align with Prostate Cancer awareness month,
Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) has been
nominated as the charity of choice for Jersey Rugby Football Club's
home match against Moseley on the Saturday 29th March (kick-off
3pm). JRFC players will be wearing a specially-commissioned strip,
produced by the club's kit supplier Kukri Sports, featuring Macmillan Jersey's logo,
and six shirts will then be auctioned to the public to raise funds
for the charity.
Macmillan Jersey will be manning an information
stand at the event giving details of the Macmillan Jersey service
and the Jersey Prostate Cancer Support Group - a community support
group facilitated by Macmillan Jersey for anyone affected by
prostate cancer.
Lauren Perchard-Rees, Cancer Specialist and
Centre Manager at Macmillan Jersey, said: "One in eight men will
develop prostate cancer during their lives and as March is national
Prostate Cancer Awareness month this event at the Rugby Club is a
timely opportunity for us to raise awareness prostate cancer and
how we can help them, their loved ones or anyone affected by any
kind of cancer in Jersey."
Macmillan Jersey will also benefit from a
proportion of table sales in the corporate hospitality tent where
lunch is served pre-match.
JRFC Chairman, Bill Dempsey said "The club are
delighted to be lending support to such an important event helping
to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Most, if not all of us will
have family, friends or acquaintances who will have been affected
by cancer, and we applaud the efforts of Macmillan Cancer Research
in their continued hard work to help eradicate the disease and
provide support to those affected by it. We hope to have a very
successful day."
The home club are expecting a bumper crowd for
the game as island fans look to cheer the boys on to Championship
survival in the penultimate home game of 2013/14. Visitors Moseley,
who include former Jersey player-coach Ben Evans in their squad,
are currently just above the Islanders, who will be looking to
register their first win in as many attempts against the men from
Birmingham.
