JRFC looking to recruit new Head Physio

JRFC are looking to recruit a replacement Head Physiotherapist
for the coming season.

  1. Post title: Head Physiotherapist, Jersey Rugby
    Football Club
  2. Type of contract: This position is being
    offered on a full-time basis for a fixed term of two seasons from
    1st July 2014 - 31st May 2016.
  3. Closing date for applications: Tuesday 3rd
    June 2014
  4. Salary range: From £35,000, depending upon
    experience
  5. Location: Jersey Rugby Football Club, or any
    other venue that is deemed necessary in order to fulfil work
    duties
  6. Annual leave entitlement: 20 days of paid
    leave together with statutory and public holidays where practical.
    Annual leave can be taken at such time(s) as may be approved by the
    Head Coach
  7. Hours of work: You will be expected to work
    appropriate hours in order to fully carry out your
    responsibilities. The role is based on an average 37.5 hours /
    week, however this will be flexible due to the nature and demands
    of the role and will involve evening and weekend work. The nature
    of the role will on occasions require working in excess of these
    hours to meet the demands of the players. As lieu time is accured,
    this time can be claimed back as and when appropriate and approved
    by the Head Coach
  8. Job description
    The Head Physiotherapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary
    team to deliver a high quality service to athletes in partnership
    with the Team Doctor and coaching staff. This will cover day-to-day
    management and match-day medical, rehabilitation, injury prevention
    and specialised duties as required. The Physiotherapist will liaise
    with the Head Coach, coaching and conditioning staff on all
    physiotherapy related issues within the Jersey Rugby squad
  9. Reports to: Head Coach, Team Doctor, Chariman
    of Jersey Rugby Football Club
  10. Essential criteria: This highly motivated Head
    Physiotherapist will provide accurate diagnosis and oversee
    treatment and rehabilitation of the players. Formulate,
    co-ordinate, supervise and deliver detailed recorded
    prehabilitiation and rehabilitation programmes for players in
    consultation with the Team Doctor. Liaise with the MDT regarding
    the progress of all injured players to ensure accurate injury
    information can be disseminated to the coaching staff

    All applicants must demonstrate:

    • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and
      registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and States of
      Jersey (and AACP if necessary)
    • A minimum of 5 years post-registration clinical experience
      which includes a minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience as
      team physiotherapist to a professional rugby team
    • Up-to-date Advanced Sports Trauma Management certificate (or
      achieved for start date) eg ICIS or REMO
    • Commitment to supporting high performance athletes
    • Ability to perform as part of a team
    • Preferably be working towards or hold a Post-graduate diploma /
      Masters degree in sports physiotherapy, sports exercise and
      medicine, sports injury or rehabilitation science
    • Excellent communication and 'people' skills
    • Excellent organisational and administration skills

    Desirable criteria
    The following skills and experience would be considered
    favourable:

    • Evidence of advanced musculoskeletal clinical skills
    • A post-graduate qualification in sports and / or
      musculoskeletal physiotherapy or sports science
    • Experience of working with other sporting teams
    • A record of success in developing and implementing injury
      prevention programmes
    • General level of physical fitness for working pitch side
    • Sports massage qualifications to SMA level or equivalent
  11. Responsibilities
    • Work within the Codes of Practice of HPC and CSP
    • Attend all home and away games and complete match day
      responsibilities
    • Strict control of the medical budget
    • Maintain stock control
    • Appropriate time management with player appointment sessions
      for physio and massage
    • Fulfil your professional development requirements on a regular
      basis within the confines of the annual rugby schedule
    • Accompany contracted players, where possible on visits to
      consultants
    • Provide cover and support for the other JRFC teams when
      required

      Maintain links in the Academic community to provide up to date
      research in injury prevention and other areas.

    • Develop and maintain links between the Academy and JRFC Senior
      players
    • Head physio must oversee provision of physio for players of the
      Academy and all Senior Club teams
    • Head physio must be proactive to encourage local physios to be
      involved at Jersey Rugby Football Club
    • Understanding of anti-doping in Rugby Football Union
    • Effective communication skills to maximise the team
      working

      Squad injury management

    • Manage and coordinate all aspects of physiotherapy services for
      Jersey Rugby Football Club
    • To provide high quality physiotherapy care to Jersey rugby
      players
    • To closely work with the Team Doctor in the treatment and
      monitoring of injuries
    • Report to the Team Doctor and Head Coach on all matters
      relating to players' injuries and progress
    • Complete a post-match injury report in conjunction with the
      Team Doctor, and communicate this to the Head Coach
    • Co-ordinate and deliver prehabilitation and injury
      rehabilitation programmes
    • Work with the Team Doctor and coaching staff to establish the
      fitness and medical clearance status of players
    • Liaise with other clubs regarding the progress and ongoing
      treatment of loan players

      Injury prevention

    • Take key role in player education in consultation with the Team
      Doctor, Coaching and Strength and Conditioning staff on injury
      prevention, treatment and management
    • Implement best practice pre-participation screening protocols
      for all players
    • Work with the Team Doctor and Strength and Conditioning staff
      in developing a programme for injury prehbilitation, prention and
      rehabilitation
    • Based on the screening findings, implement individual
      prehabilitation programmes as required. This may also take place at
      the end of the season
    • Monitor injury rates and identify areas requiring attention to
      limit injury numbers
    • Investigate, plan and implement strategically effective and
      relevant exercise rehabilitation methods which meet optimally the
      needs of the players including development of the long term injury
      plan

  12. Key Performance indicators
    • The delivery of best practice sports physiotherapy services to
      the Jersey Rugby Football club players
    • The development and implementation of best practice injury
      prevention protocols
    • Strong and effective working relationships with the coaches,
      players and other members of the MDT
    • Maintain an effective, up to date injury monitoring
      database
    • Engage in CPD in the practice of sports physiotherapy to ensure
      the delivery of physiotherapy services that reflect best
      international practice
