After the disappointment of a recent home defeat to Moseley,
Jersey supporters will be hoping that a brief hiatus from regular
league fixtures to allow for the B&I Cup Quarter Finals, will
see a rejuvenated Jersey squad travel to Oxford and gain vital
points in what is sure to be a testing encounter against a
formidable London Welsh outfit.
The teams last met in early January in what proved to be a very
evenly contested encounter. Since then, London Welsh have continued
steadily on an upward curve whilst the men from The Channel
Islands' fortunes have been more of a mixed bag. With the season
drawing to an imminent close and Ealing hot on the heels, every
point gained will be crucial in the struggle to ensure Championship
rugby at St. Peter next season.
In the forwards, the tight five remains unchanged from the
team's last run out. Following a disciplinary hearing which sees an
on form Latu Makaafi sidelined for 2 matches, Joe Buckle
switches from a familiar 7 to blindside, with Ryan Hodson coming on
to the openside.
In the back division, Mark McCrea moves back from the wing to
inside centre where he has proved a potent attacking threat this
season. In his place out wide, Ed Dawson is recalled to action to
play at a ground which promises to provide opportunities for
expansive rugby for the back 3. Joel Dudley has been handed the 9
shirt and will partner Aaron Penberthy who suffered a knock in the
warm up to the Moseley game but is once again available and
continues to cement his place at 10.
The replacements see three changes with the inclusion of Tom
Fidler, Dave Markham covering the second row and a switch to the
bench for David Bishop who will provide cover for the outside
backs.
