Ben Harvey has named his side for the opening home Greene King
IPA Championship match of the season against Bedford Blues this
Saturday at the home of Jersey RFC, St Peter (Kick Off 15:00).
The Jersey Director of Rugby has made only two changes to the
starting line-up that ran out at Sandy Park in the Double Header
against Plymouth Albion last weekend. The forward pack remains
unchanged, whilst Harvey has rotated his half-backs on the
replacements bench.
Latu Makaafi (fractured jaw) and Drew Locke (shoulder injury)
have joined Jersey born props Jon Brennan and Myles Landick on the
injured list, whilst centre Locke should be back in contention the
following week it is expected flanker Makaafi will remain
side-lined for a couple of months.
Summer signing and outside-half Niall O'Connor returns to the
first XV for his first competitive start in Jersey colours as the
impressive Aaron Penberthy moves to the substitutes bench. Also in
the back-line Mark McCrea slots into outside centre having returned
to full fitness in place of the injured Locke.
The forward replacements also remain unchanged, bar permanent
summer signing Joe Buckle who replaces Makaafi. Jimmy Williams also
earns his first selection in the competitive squad as replacement
scrum-half with the battle between him, Griffiths and Dudley
continuing to be a close call.
