Jersey Reds have lined up a date with one of the biggest names in English club rugby as part of the build-up to the 2021/22 season.
Leicester Tigers are to visit the Island in August for a pre-season training camp that will conclude with a match against the Reds at Stade Santander on Friday August 27th (kick-off 5pm).
It will be the third encounter between the sides since the Reds reached the Greene King IPA Championship, with Tigers having visited in August 2012 and again 12 months later (match report links: 2012 and 2013).
“It’s fantastic to have Leicester Tigers lined up for later this summer,” said Jersey Reds Director of Rugby Harvey Biljon. “It will be a very tough test for our squad a few weeks before league action starts, but I’m sure the players will learn a great deal from playing against such high-calibre opposition.”
Steve Borthwick, Head Coach of Leicester Tigers, said: "We are looking forward to the opportunity to take on Jersey Reds next pre-season and grateful to the club for hosting Leicester Tigers.
"It will be a great experience for our group and we are excited for the chance to visit Jersey and the Channel Islands community."
The Tigers are one of the most decorated clubs in the English game, claiming 10 national league titles as well as back-to-back Heineken (European) Cup wins in 2001 and 2002. In 2020/21 the Tigers reached the final of the European Challenge Cup, losing narrowly to Montpellier, while their Gallagher Premiership campaign will conclude with a trip to Wasps this Saturday.
Ticket details for the Reds v Tigers match will be released shortly.
