MARK BRIGHT is in the running for the Greene King IPA
Championship player of the month for the second consecutive time
after November's shortlist was unveiled.
Having missed out on September's title the London Scottish No 8 is
still riding high at the top of the try scoring table and impressed
during the Championship XV fixture against Canada, scoring the
opening try at Sixways. The 36-year old has scored 10 tries in nine
rounds, three more than Bristol's Augustin Slowik who sits in
second place with seven.
Fresh from securing 13-points for Nottingham during their narrow
victory over Moseley at the weekend, Dan Mugford is also named.
Having been forced to exit the Championship XV squad due to injury,
the fly-half returned to impressive action for the Green &
Whites, scoring two tries against Cornish Pirates, and proving
instrumental in Nottingham's subsequent fixtures against Bristol
and Moseley.
Fellow Championship XV back Tom Kessell is also amongst the
nominees, selected by a panel of regional and national journalists.
The Cornish Pirates scrum-half has started in all nine games for
his club, scoring five tries in the process including one during
Pirates' 65-14 victory over Bedford Blues last weekend. Identified
by head coach Ian Davies as a Premiership contender, Kessell is the
first Pirate to be named in the player of the month vote.
Joining the five shortlisted players is former England U20
fly-half Sam Olver. Having joined Moseley on dual-registration from
Northampton Saints, the 20-year old brings plenty of experience to
the midlands, not least through his involvement in England's
triumphant 2014 IRB Junior World Championship squad. Olver has
scored 61 points off the boot for Moseley during his six games at
the club this season.
Finally, completing the shortlist for November's player of the
month is Rotherham Titan's Joel Gill.
A consistently reliable player for the Titans, the outside centre
joined the Yorkshire outfit in 2012 and has appeared 42 times for
the club. Gill particularly impressed during Rotherham's 6-0
victory over fellow Yorkshire outfit Carnegie, a game which marked
the club's first win at Headingly since 2007.
