GKIPA Championship preview – Round 2

09/09/2014

Having opened their campaign in the most dramatic of
circumstances against Worcester Warriors, Bristol Rugby can now
look forward to another heavyweight clash in Round 2 with a trip to
Yorkshire Carnegie on Sunday. Yorkshire kicked off their campaign
with a bonus-point win, as did London Scottish, thanks, in no small
part, to hat-trick hero and 2013/14 Championship Player of the Year
nominee Mark Bright.

Nottingham and Doncaster are on the road as they also look to make
it two wins from two, with Plymouth Albion and Jersey hoping to
deny them, while Moseley, who came from behind to snatch a share of
the spoils against Jersey - their sixth draw in as many
Championship seasons, make the short journey to Sixways to tackle
west Midlands rivals Worcester. Bedford and Rotherham do battle at
Goldington Road.

Bedford Blues v Rotherham Titans, Saturday September 13, KO
15:00pm
Rotherham are on a four-game winning run in all competitions
against the Blues. Three of those victories came last season, when
the Titans won home and away in the league and once at Goldington
Road in the British & Irish Cup. The Titans registered over 30
points on each occasion. The Blues have lost four of their last
five home games.

Jersey v Doncaster Knights, Saturday September 13, KO 15:00pm
The home side won their respective games when these sides last met
in the 2012/13 Championship season - Jersey's first at this level.
Jersey won 13-10 at St Peter, with the Castle Park clash ending
22-17 in Doncaster's favour.

Plymouth Albion v Nottingham Rugby, Saturday September 13, KO
15:00pm
Plymouth go into the game hoping to end an eight-game losing run
that spans last season. They defeated Nottingham twice at
Brickfields last season, 28-9 in the B&I Cup and 22-12 in the
Championship. Nottingham last won at Brickfields on October 27,
2012, when they won by 31 points to 22.

Worcester v Moseley, Saturday September 13, KO 15:00pm
Worcester did the double over Moseley in their 2010/11 Championship
title-winning season, with a 45-7 win at Sixways and a 37-18
victory at Billesley Common. Moseley's last success against the
Warriors was a 22-15 home win on December 9, 2000. Moseley have
only won one of their last nine away matches.

Yorkshire Carnegie v Bristol Rugby, Sunday September 7, KO
14:30
These sides faced each other five times last season, with Carnegie
claiming three wins to Bristol's two. Bristol, though, were one of
only two sides - London Welsh being the other - to defeat the
Yorkshire side on their home patch in the Championship, when, on
March 23, they came away from Headingley with maximum points from a
33-27 victory.

Cornish Pirates v London Scottish, Sunday September 7, KO
15:00
A brace of tries from scrum-half Tom Kessell ultimately decided
last season's corresponding fixture - an attritional 16-8 win for
the Pirates. The previous season Scottish won in the Duchy 20-17.
The overall head-to-head record in the Championship stands at three
wins apiece.
