Everyone at Jersey Reds has been saddened to learn of the death last weekend of Geoff Esnouf.
Geoff, who was 72, was a sports enthusiast and long-time supporter of the Reds: a regular at games and an invariably cheery presence at pre-match lunches, which he attended frequently with family and friends.
Among the most significant matches Geoff attended was the ‘Great Escape’ match at Bedford in 2014, when a Reds’ win helped ensure Championship survival on the final day of the season – he is pictured in celebratory mode at that game by former JEP Sports Editor Ron Felton.
Geoff, who worked at St Saviour’s Hospital in the role of Mental Health Administrator until his retirement in 2008, was a football referee for 30 years; one of his career highlights was earning an international appointment in 1993, when he took charge of an under 15 match between England and the Republic of Ireland.
Jersey Reds would like to express condolences to Geoff’s wife Elaine, his children Claire and Andy, plus step-children Rebecca and Jonny, his son-in-law Paul and daughter-in-law Hayley, his grandchildren Ethan, Alex and Max, and his step-granddaughter Mia.
