‘Feathers’ set to fly into Jersey

16/04/2015

Prop Ben Featherstone has been confirmed as the latest addition
to Jersey's squad, signing a two-year deal as the Island club build
towards 2015/16.

Nicknamed 'Feathers', the 25-year-old new recruit can play on
both sides of the front-row, although his preferred role is as a
tight-head. He was born in Southampton and played his junior rugby
for Trojans in Hampshire. He then attended Hartpury College in
Gloucestershire, playing for the Hartpury XV and Cinderford and
subsequently for Bournemouth. Most recently he has played for Esher
in National Division One, as well as making appearances on loan
with Saracens, playing in the Aviva 'A' League and the LV Cup.

"Ben is a player who comes highly recommended - what he needs
now is a strong pre-season and he will then have the chance to
fulfil his potential and establish himself as a Championship
player," said Jersey Head Coach Harvey Biljon.

Featherstone's arrival comes as it was confirmed that Jersey
prop Harry Williams will be leaving the club in May after agreeing
to join Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs.

"Harry was one of the players in our plans for next season, but
an opportunity has come up to play at a higher level and we have
consented to his release," said Biljon. "He's played a valuable
role for Jersey this season and we wish him well in the next stage
of his career."

Also leaving Jersey is centre Drew Locke, who is ending a
two-year stay on the Island to move to London Scottish.

"Drew has been a key player for us and has attracted interest
from other clubs - this and his wish to be nearer his family have
led to his decision to leave us," explained Biljon. "We'll be
looking forward to crossing paths with him in the Championship next
season."

Jersey have two matches left in the current Greene King IPA
Championship campaign, with an away trip to Bristol tomorrow
(Friday), followed by the home match against Moseley on Saturday
April 25th, and the season concludes with the Siam Cup against
Guernsey at St Peter on Saturday May 2nd.
