With a late try for the Pirates to seal a BP win in the 'clotted
cream' derby against Albion to end round 9, and Worcester's
comeback win at Headingley in the first of the round 10 fixtures
today (December 27th), there are a few bits of movement up and down
the Championship table.
Worcester Warriors hold the top spot heading into the New Year,
but have played one more tie than their closest rivals Bristol.
Both sides have been showing their full premiership credentials,
and there is now a sizeable 12 point lead over London Scottish in
3rd, followed closely by Nottingham and Rotherham Titans.
At the other end of the table, Plymouth Albion remain rooted to
the bottom, 10 points adrift of Doncaster Knights in 11th, and are
the only side not to have recorded a win so far this term.
The main area of interest for Jersey fans is the middle of the
table that is desperately close, with only a BP win separating the
Knights from Cornish Pirates in 6th.
After today's SW derby result Jersey have dropped to 8th, level
on 18 points with Yorkshire Carnegie (7th) who have won one more
match, but equally have played one more game too. Hot on Jersey's
heals are Bedford and Moseley who are tied on 17 points, so it
really is all to play for at the moment, with so much at stake.
Bristol kick off 2015 on New Year's Day when they host Plymouth,
and it would be a brave betting man not to go with them to reassert
themselves at the top of the pile.
Jersey travel to Pirates on Saturday January 3rd in what will
surely be one of the most hotly contested fixtures of the round. On
the same day Moseley take on Bedford, so there will definitely be
more table movement ahead of the Sunday clashes when Doncaster host
Rotherham in a South Yorkshire derby and Nottingham take on London
Scottish.
Lots to play for, so be sure to keep behind the boys in Red, and
we look forward to seeing you back at St Peter on the 10th January
for the last game of the first half of the season (and also the
first of 2015), against Bristol.
