Jersey RFC have announced four players who will be part of the
club's 2014/15 squad. The two new faces and two members of the
current squad are the first pieces in the Island side's squad for
next season, with further announcements expected in the coming
weeks.
Jersey-born full-back Jack Burroughs is
rewarded with a new contract after breaking into the team this
season. After a handful of British & Irish Cup appearances
earlier in the season, Burroughs made his league debut at Moseley
just before Christmas and has played in every game since, scoring
four tries, including a memorable winning score against Nottingham
in February with the last move of the game (pictured below by
Sue Trower).
Sam Lockwood will become a permanent part of
the Islanders' squad next season after three months on loan from
Greene King IPA Championship rivals Leeds Carnegie. The loosehead
prop, who celebrated his 26th birthday this week, has made six
appearances for Jersey since making his debut against Bristol at
the start of February.
Both the new faces are also front row players. Loosehead prop
Ben Rogers, 21, will move to the Island from
Plymouth Albion. He has made more than 30 league and cup
appearances during his two years with Albion, and was previously on
the books at Exeter Chiefs.
Danny Herriott, who joins Jersey from Aviva
Premiership side Northampton Saints, can play both loosehead and
tighthead prop. The 21-year-old was part of the England Under 20
squad for the 2013 Six Nations, and has this season been playing as
a dual-registered player with Loughborough Students in SSE National
One.
"I'm really pleased that the squad for next season is taking
shape," said Head Coach Harvey Biljon. "The majority of the pieces
should be in place by the end of April, and we will make further
announcements during the rest of the month.
"Jack Burroughs has gone from strength to strength and earned
the good run he's had in the number 15 shirt during the second half
of the season, and Sam Lockwood has also impressed and provided
genuine competition in our front row during his time here. We will
also look forward to the arrival of Danny and Ben - two impressive
young players who I'm sure will be looking to taking the next steps
in their career and help the club to a successful 2014/15
campaign."
The current Jersey squad are currently preparing for the final
four games of 2013/14 - a tough trip to play-off contenders London
Welsh this weekend, the last home match of the season on 19th
April, when London Scottish visit St Peter (ko 2pm) and then a
league trip to Bedford and the Siam Cup in Guernsey.
