Update as at Tuesday August 16th - the deadline for expressions of interest has now passed. We apologise that there was only a limited time for this offer, however this was necessary in order to secure the booking. We are now going through the responses and will contact all those who expressed interest in the coming days. Once this process is complete, there will be a further update and should there be any space on the flight, this would be publicised via this website and social media channels.
On the first weekend of March 2017, Jersey Reds will be making the trip to Penzance to play Cornish Pirates, one of our most attractive, but hard-to-reach away destinations.
As another great benefit for our members, the club is considering a charter flight for the weekend of March 4th/5th, and is looking for expressions of interest from supporters in order to assess whether this is viable. We need to act fast in order to secure the booking, so please read this carefully and respond TODAY (Monday) if you are interested.
Cornwall is a rugby heartland and the atmosphere at the Mennaye Field is one of the best in the Greene King IPA Championship - almost as loud as St Peter! There are facilities for eating and drinking both inside and outside the ground, and the chance to join the locals in some rugby songs in the bar after the game. With planning permission granted for a new stadium in Truro, this will be one of the final opportunities to watch Jersey play in this hotbed of rugby.
Aside from rugby, the far west of Cornwall has plentiful attractions for visitors, including Land's End, St Michael's Mount and the Eden Project, and there'll be options for some sightseeing, socialising and/or shopping on Saturday PM and Sunday AM before the game.
Due to the wide range of locations and prices across the many options for accommodation, we don't intend to offer a full package including a designated hotel. Those coming on the trip will need to arrange their own hotel. However there will be coach transport arranged on Sunday for the return journey from Penzance to Cornwall Airport Newquay, and depending on numbers and demand, we may also seek to arrange transport on Saturday from the airport to selected destinations. There'll be a modest charge to cover these transfers.
The outline details of the trip are as follows:
Saturday March 4th
10am - Reds' players, coaches and supporters depart Jersey for flight to Newquay (approx one hour)
afternoon/evening - supporters are free to plan their itinerary according to their budget and preferences. Some may wish to travel all the way to Penzance (approx one hour by road from the airport) but there are other options including St Ives, Falmouth, Truro or Newquay itself.
Sunday March 5th
morning - at leisure, or travel to Penzance if you've stayed elsewhere
2pm - kick-off for Cornish Pirates v Jersey Reds
5.30pm - leave Mennaye Field
6.30pm - arrive Newquay Airport
8pm - depart Newquay Airport for return flight to Jersey (approx one hour)
The cost of the return flight will be £250 per person. No money is required at this stage, however if the trip goes ahead a deposit will be required by August 31st, with full payment by October 31st.
If you are interested, please email Tom Innes with your name and the number of places you'd anticipate taking. The deadline for expressions-of-interest is 9am on Tuesday August 16th. Places are limited and if the trip is over-subscribed there may be a ballot, in which members would be given priority.
