Jersey Rugby Club has been shocked to learn of a terrible
accident on Monday involving the club's Honorary Treasurer, Adam
Budworth, and his wife Glenda.
The couple were hit by a tree on the Railway Walk as they returned
to their home in St Brelade during the blizzard conditions that hit
the Island earlier this week.
After being trapped under the tree, the couple managed to
extricate themselves and phone for help before being treated by
paramedics at the scene and taken to Jersey General Hospital. Both
have suffered fractured vertebrae, and Adam is set to be
transferred to a UK hospital for spinal surgery later this week. He
also has two broken toes, while his wife suffered a double fracture
to her lower left leg.
Adam is a member of the Executive Committee at JRFC, while Glenda
is a regular attendee at games and helps count gate takings for
home games.
"It was a real shock to hear this news - we don't know whether to
curse their bad luck over what happened, or be thankful that the
consequences weren't even worse," said JRFC Chairman Bill
Dempsey.
"We were pleased to find Adam and Glenda in good spirits during a
visit to the hospital yesterday, and certainly the thoughts of
everyone at the club are with them both as they begin what we hope
will be a full recovery."
