Weekend rugby guide as Reds join social media blackout

30/04/2021

To all Reds supporters (and other interested parties)

This weekend will be a different one to those who’re used to keeping up with the Reds home and away, as there’ll be no social media coverage. This is as a result of the Reds joining other rugby clubs and sports organisations in the Draw The Line campaign. This is a three-day boycott of social media showing British sport coming together to emphasise that social media companies must do more to eradicate online hate, while highlighting the importance of educating people in the ongoing fight against discrimination.

As our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram sites will be inactive after 3pm on Friday, we wanted to let you know so that you can still enjoy your weekend rugby ‘fix’, albeit possibly using additional channels, as the Reds travel to Ampthill on Saturday (k-o 1.45pm)

WATCH

To watch the game streamed live (broadcast starts 1.25pm, KO 1.45pm ) via the Greene King IPA Championship website (cost £10), use THIS LINK. We recommend getting yourself set up in advance – you can do this at any stage on Friday or Saturday morning.

Click HERE for the Jersey Reds TV preview with Forwards Coach Rob Webber.

LISTEN

There will be updates from the game (but not full commentary) on BBC Radio Jersey, available on FM or AM in Jersey, or online via a smartspeaker or the BBC SOUNDS WEBSITE

The latest edition of the Championship Clubs Podcast is available, featuring an interview with Ampthill Director of Rugby Mark Lavery. Access it via THIS LINK

OTHER ‘PARISH NOTICES’

Tickets are available online for our next home game, against Coventry on Saturday May 15th. If you missed the excitement of the ‘homecoming’ game against Nottingham, go to THIS LINK to secure your ticket.

The 1st XV players and coaches have a few days off next week, but they’ll be back at Stade Santander International on Friday May 7th to take part in a charity bike ride. The twice-round-the-Rock initiative has been inspired by Sam Leeming, who signed for the Reds in summer 2020 but was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a rare form of cancer, last September. Sam is working his way back to fitness and has nominated the Teenage Cancer Trust as the nominated good cause for the event. You can read more about the initiative in the JEP, and sponsor the event through the justgiving platform.

Finally, if you are after a bit of live sport this weekend, albeit with a strangely-shaped ball, Jersey Reds Athletic will play their final scheduled football match of the season against Jersey Scottish on Sunday. Kick-off at ‘Stade Athletique’ (a.k.a. pitch 2) will be at 1.15pm

Enjoy your weekend!
