Jersey 23 Fylde 8

Jersey finished their title-winning season on a winning note,
gaining revenge for defeat at Fylde's hands at the end of
August.

England Grand Slam captain Bill Beaumont watched his sons turn
out for his old club and then presented Jersey with both the RFU
and NCA trophies for winning National One.

The match and accompanying celebrations attracted a 3,454 crowd
to Jersey's ground at St Peter, with supporters soaked by both rain
and champagne by the time they left the pitch.

The conditions made for a scrappy game, and the visitors should
have gone ahead following a spell of early pressure which saw Chris
Briers go very close.

Jersey recovered through two Ross Broadfoot penalties and then
began to exert forward pressure leading to a penalty try just
before the break.

Dave McCormack's interception almost brought a second try but
the scrum-half was hauled down by Nick Royle. A yellow card for
Steve McGinnis left Fylde with a numerical disadvantage they could
ill afford, and Jersey took advantage at the scrum, with a second
penalty try of the match - their ninth for the season in total.

The intensity of the level dropped in the closing stages but
Fylde continued to press, having not failed to score a try in any
game this season, and eventually Royle crossed in the final
minute.
