JRFC confirm new loan signing for 1st XV squad.
Jersey have bolstered their forward options with the signing of
hooker Charlie Clare on loan from Leicester Tigers.
The hooker, who first joined the Tigers in 2008, arrived on the
Island yesterday (Monday) and has initially agreed a one-month loan
deal. There is an option in place to extend the
arrangement if all parties are happy.
Clare could make his first appearance for Jersey against Leinster
'A' in the British & Irish Cup this Sunday, which will also be
his 21st birthday.
"It's great to strengthen our squad with a talented player like
Charlie, who I believe is a rugby player on the point of realising
his considerable potential," said Jersey's Director of Rugby, Ben
Harvey. "The club has had an attritional season so far with our
fair share of injuries, and there have been occasions when we have
been without a specialist hooker on the bench, so an extra option
in that department will be a definite asset."
Harvey added: "Charlie's career has developed in a professional
environment at Leicester, and to have hookers of the pedigree of
Richard Cockerill and Neil McCarthy [Director of Rugby and Academy
Manager at Leicester] as your mentors should leave him
well-equipped."
Charlie is a product of the renowned Cumbrian rugby school
Sedbergh and represented England at Under 16 level. As well as
playing in Academy and 'A' League matches for Tigers he also made
loan appearances for Nottingham and Loughborough Students in
2011/12.
