Sam takes front row seat after landing on
Island
Jersey have bolstered their playing resources with the signing of
loosehead prop Sam Lockwood from Leeds Carnegie.
The 25-year-old, who has been at Leeds for two-and-a-half
seasons, comes to the Island on a loan deal lasting until the end
of the 2013/14 season.
Head Coach Harvey Biljon, making his first signing since
arriving in Jersey earlier this month, stated: "The intention is to
give additional depth to the squad in a key position - Sam will
provide cover in the event of injuries, but beyond that I am
looking for him to establish himself and challenge the incumbents
for a place in our starting line-up.
"Sam is a proven operator in the front row but hasn't been
getting many opportunities with Leeds in recent weeks, and we hope
this will be a positive move for him at this stage of his
career."
Sam was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, but first played rugby
for Sudbury RFC in Suffolk, where he was at school. On returning to
Yorkshire, he played for Leeds Metropolitan University while a
student and subsequently for Sheffield Tigers.
Standing 6ft 1ins tall and weighing 19 stone, Sam joined Leeds
Carnegie in summer 2011 and played 32 times in his first two
seasons, plus a further 14 appearances during the current
campaign.
