Host club Guernsey Raiders and visitors Jersey RFC have confirmed arrangements for this year's Ipes Siam Cup, which will be played on Saturday May 7th.
The centrepiece of the day's rugby at Footes Lane will see the 1st XVs of the rival Islands competing for the Siam Cup at 2.30pm. Earlier in the day, Guernsey and Jersey will contest the Fallaize Cup for 2nd teams, Nash Cup (Veterans) and Ladies Siam.
After discussions between the two clubs, it has been agreed that the Jersey 1st XV squad will be selected from players who have played for the Island side for a minimum of three seasons. Each side will select a 22-man squad for the Siam Cup.
"We are looking forward to resuming our historic rivalry with Jersey in front of our home supporters," said Guernsey Raiders Chairman Martin Belcher.
Bill Dempsey, Chairman of Jersey RFC, commented: "We appreciate the recent challenges regarding the competitiveness of the Siam Cup, with a three-division gap in the levels at which both clubs play their league rugby. We hope that the eligibility rules for this year's contest will lead to a really good game."
"We're grateful to Guernsey for agreeing to a 2.30pm kick-off for the main match, as this will enable Jersey supporters to make a day-trip by ferry."
The day-return option involves outward travel on the 0800 Condor Rapide service, arriving in Guernsey at 0900; the return trip for supporters and players is at 1735 on the Commodore Clipper, arriving in St Helier at 1920.
